The Next "World's Largest Recycle Project"

On May 12, 2006 , our newly formed affiliate company, Recycled Materials Company (RMC) of California broke ground at the former El Toro Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) in Irvine , Calif. Thus ending a 10-year $100 million battle over what should happen to this parcel of land totaling more than 3000 acres.

RMC of California has established a sustainability partnership with the Orange County Great Park Corporation and the development firm Lennar Corporation for the removal and recycling of the runways, taxiways, concourse maintenance and loading facilities at El Toro totaling 3.5 million tons of Portland Cement Concrete ( PCC ) and asphalt which will be removed, recycled and re-used on the site as part of the re-development effort. That is enough hardscape to fill Anaheim Stadium six times!

Recycling El Toro MCAS may take eight years or longer to accomplish, and represents a significant cost savings to Irvine in avoided demolition costs as recycled materials are used on-site.

Sustainability through re-use is a key goal of this project. All materials will be re-used onsite by the developer and the Orange County Great Park Corporation for private and public development projects on-site including homes and various commercial sites.
